Our Services

The House of Drai offers a carefully considered range of services. Carefully considered by us. The range is not subject to negotiation.

Taste

For matters where technically there are many options, but realistically only one acceptable one.

Taste is perhaps the most misunderstood of all faculties. Many believe it can be acquired through exposure, study, or sufficient expenditure. This is partially true and largely irrelevant. What we offer is the application of taste at the point where it is most needed: before a decision is made, rather than after it becomes permanent. Engagements are conducted with appropriate discretion. Outcomes are not guaranteed to be popular, but they are guaranteed to be correct.

Available for interiors, objects, occasions, and situations of ambiguous aesthetic standing.

Judgment

Independent opinions, whether requested or not.

Judgment is the rarest of commodities in an age that has confused having opinions with having good ones. We provide the latter. Our assessments are formed independently, delivered plainly, and not revised in response to disappointment. Clients who have sought reassurance rather than accuracy are advised to seek it elsewhere — there are many services better suited to that purpose.

Retainer arrangements available for those requiring ongoing access to reliable perspective.

Standards

Setting them. Occasionally explaining them. Never lowering them.

Standards are not arbitrary. They exist because most things can be done better, and a small number of things can only be done one way. We assist clients in identifying which category their situation falls into, establishing the appropriate benchmark, and — where necessary — explaining why the benchmark is what it is. The explanation is offered once. The standard itself is not subject to revision based on what turns out to be convenient.

Particularly relevant for organisations that have confused flexibility with the absence of standards.

Discretion

Some things are simply better left unmentioned.

Discretion is not merely the keeping of confidences, though we do that as a matter of course. It is the broader practice of knowing what should be said, what should not, and — crucially — the difference between the two. We do not elaborate further on this service. That would rather defeat the purpose.

Details available on a strictly need-to-know basis.

Selective Approval

Available selectively. Details intentionally vague.

There are engagements that do not fit neatly into any of the above categories. We accept these on a case-by-case basis, applying the same standards of taste, judgment and discretion that govern everything else we do. The nature of these engagements is not published. If you require them, you will know. If you are uncertain whether you require them, you probably do not.

Enquiries considered. Unnecessary enquiries judged accordingly.

All engagements are subject to availability, suitability, and our assessment of whether the matter warrants our involvement.
